TEACHING YOUNG LEARNERS

Because of the situation we are living (COVID-19), there are some students that can't come to class, and that's why today's presentation was presented to us by a video that the group made.

Before commenting their presentation, I want to say that this difficult and strange situation that we are living is making us being more resolutive. For example, this group, despite not being able to come to class, they are involve in the class, and they do their projects as us but instead of presented them physically in the class, they recorded themselves at home and then they joined all the videos in one, in order to show it to us.

Their presentation was about "TEACHING YOUNG LEARNERS"

When teaching young learners is important the figure of the caretaker, he/she has to ask everything in English, and of course the students has to answer always in English. It is also important that he/she uses gestures and pictures for teaching young learners. With a caretaker, the students are going to feel comfortable and will create a supportive environment that will give them confidence to speak in English.

Some tips to teach young learners are:

  • Make a list of the vocabulary they are going to learn and paste it on the wall.
  • Say all in English during the lessons.
  • Use songs and rhymes.
  • Use a puppet.
I liked the presentation of this group because they presented it very clearly, but what I like the most what the tip of using a puppy in class in order to teach young learners .

Why do I consider interesting to use a puppy? Because since the first day you introduce the puppy as it can only speak English. The students are going to make the effort to speak always in English for making the puppy easier to understand them.  I'll use it in my future classes!!!!
