Today in class we have been talking about the difference between 'assessment for learning' and 'assessment of learning'. We came up with the conclusion the the good one is 'assessment for learning' as you are going to study to learn, not to just pass an exam.
We have been also reading about the differences between the 'old paradigm' and the 'new paradigm'. The 'new paradigm' is related to 'assessment for learning' as the aim of both is to do tests that also teach.
In this session I have learnt the importance of giving positive feedback to our students. If you correct them without shouting and telling them how good they would do the activity if they try do it again better, they are going to be more motivated and they are going to want to continue learning more and more. Whereas if you just told them that they have done it bad and that they are going to have a negative point for that activity, our students will loss motivation. We have to encourage our students to continue learning despite having mistakes. We learn from mistakes.
I really like what I have learnt today, and I'm sure I'm going to use the positive feedback in my classes as well as the 'assessment for learning' and the 'new paradigm'.
Our classes are going to be richer in learning if we use what we have learnt today.
